Negotiate with Boko Haram - Gov Shettima tells President Jonathan

The Governor of Borno state, Kashim Shettima has asked President Jonathan to negotiate with Boko Haram men if that is what it will take to release the abducted Chibok girls. Governor Shettima made this remark during an interview with CNN's Christiane Amanpour last night.
"The issue of not negotiation with the terrorists – it’s out of the question. If it means talking to the devil, it means the devil can come down, we can get back our girls. The group that kidnapped the girls are a bunch of raving lunatics.
"Do we have any other option? If I have to talk to the devil to secure the release of the girls, I will do so. President Jonathan did not act on time and did not talk to me over the kidnappings until 19 days after.’’
He also said for the first three weeks after the girls were abducted, the whole thing was politicized.

Also speaking, a woman leader of the All Progressive Party Sharon Ikeazor said the situation could have been salvaged on time if the President had acted immediately. She said the girls had their cellphones with them and had contacted their parents about their abduction.

'I will sell them' - Boko Haram claims responsibility for kidnapping #Chibok girls

"I abducted your girls. I will sell them in the market, by Allah. There is a market for selling humans. Allah says I should sell. He commands me to sell. I will sell women. I sell women." alleged Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau said in a video (he spoke in Hausa) that was released today.

There were reports about a week ago that some of the girls have been sold or married off for N2,000 each. With this new declaration from Boko Haram, it means the report is close to the truth. 'I will lead protest to Chibok, and I don't mind being shot' - Patience Jonathan

First Lady Patience Jonathan has said she's ready to lead a protest to Chibok, Borno state if the kidnapped girls are not released soon, and doesn't mind being shot if that's what it will take to release the girls. (if I hear! lol). Mama peace made this statement during a meeting with wives of government functionaries, female Senators and Commissioners.
"I do not mind being shot as long as they return our girls to us safely, we are tired of the kidnapping,” she said.
According to her, First Ladies of other countries such as Cameroon, Chad, Niger and others have  being calling to ask her questions and offer assistance on the matter.
"They intimate me of their readiness to help. They also asked me questions that I could not answer ‎and as women we are the last hope of this nation. We cannot fail our fellow women and the nation. If need be, we will call on the northern elders to help us so that our children and husbands will not die,” Dame Jonathan said.‎‎

She said a committee would be set up at a stakeholders meeting involving wives of all the relevant bodies tomorrow May 4th. She warned that failure of any relevant agency to honour their invitation to the meeting would force her and others to make the Chibok protest a reality.
"I cannot perpetuate hearsay and rumour; I must have facts to tell the international community. We will set up a committee to seek the truth as women. If any of those we call refuse to come, we will take the protest to Chibok" she said.

Another blast hits Abuja

According to multiple eye-witness reports, and residents of Abuja, another blast hit Abuja again this evening. A loud  explosion was heard around Mopol Junction Bus Stop, Nyanya, Abuja. The explosion was reported opposite #Nyanya bus park, scene of the last explosion which killed over 70 people.

Fresh Abuja blast leaves several people dead

I'm bringing an update on this now because I was on my way out of Nigeria last night when the news broke. Just landed to hear that 30 people may have been killed in the blast. Some media outlets are reporting as high as 70 while CNN puts the figure at 9, NEMA at 10 and the Nigerian police at 12.

The blast occurred last night Thursday May 1st around 8.20 at Karshi Taxi Park, very close to the scene of the April 14th bomb blast. It is believed that the explosion came from a bomb-laden white Volkswagen parked at the taxi park.

The bomb went off as residents of the area were returning home. Eye witnesses said bodies of some of the victims were scattered on the ground, while some were burnt beyond recognition.

A statement released by the NSCDC and NEMA said that 10 bodies were recovered from the scene while several others were taken to different hospitals.
"While security agencies have condoned off the area of the explosion in Nyanya, Abuja, response agencies have moved injured victims to hospitals and at least 10 lifeless bodies have been deposited in the mortuary while 13 unconscious victims are receiving medical attention in different hospitals in Abuja. Other injured victims too are being attended to." the statement read in part.
Some security sources said yesterday that they believe the bomb was set to explode early this morning, just like the Nyanya blast that went off as commuters gathered at the park to take transport to their various destinations, but something went wrong and the bomb accidentally went off, killing the driver and other innocent people who were about to board buses to leave the Abuja City Park. Meanwhile, NEMA has called onAbuja residents to donate blood to help victims of the blast. This can't keep happening. It just can't! See more pics after the cut...
