Billionaire Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg on Monday defended his huge $19 billion takeover of free mobile messaging service WhatsApp, saying it is actually worth much more.

The 29-year-old Facebook chief announced the stock and cash purchase on Wednesday, a deal that marries his social network of 1.2 billion active users with Whatsapp’s 450 million users.

Asked about the price tag during an on-stage discussion at the February 24-27 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, Zuckerberg said WhatsApp was attractive as a company by itself, and as a strategic fit with Facebook.

“I just think that by itself it is worth more than $19 billion [14-billion-euro],” said Zuckerberg, wearing a grey t-shirt, sneakers and black trousers.

“I mean it is hard to exactly make that speech today because they have so little revenue compared to that number,” he conceded.

“But the reality is that there are very few services that reach a billion people in the world. They are all incredibly valuable, much more valuable than that,” he added.

“I could be wrong. This could be the one service that gets to a billion people and ends up not being that valuable. I don’t think I am.”

A 14 year old Chinese boy has been arrested after stabbing his own father to death at a cyber cafe after the father confronted him over playing video games instead of going to school and doing his homework.  

Daily Mail reports that the boy's father had gone to fetch the boy from the internet cafe, but when the boy refused to return home the pair argued and the boy allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed his father. Arsenal set to eliminate Liverpool

Brendan Rodgers' side hammered Arsenal 5-1 at Anfield in the Premier League last weekend, but the north London club restored some pride by avenging that defeat to set up a last-eight encounter with Everton.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain handed the hosts an early advantage after 16 minutes, sliding the ball home from inside the area to register a third goal from his last three appearances at the Emirates Stadium.

The England international then turned provider shortly after the interval, pulling a ball back 
for Lukas Podolski after a smart one-two between himself and Mesut Ozil.

Steven Gerrard's penalty gave Liverpool hope a minute before the hour and the visitors were aggrieved when referee Howard Webb failed to award another spot-kick after Oxlade-Chamberlain appeared to foul Luis Suarez in the area.

Daniel Agger almost grabbed a dramatic equaliser with four minutes left when he headed wide after Lukasz Fabianski flapped at a delivery from Gerrard, but Arsenal stood strong to reach the quarter-finals for the first time in three years. 

The Gunners, with one eye on Wednesday's Champions League clash with Bayern Munich, made seven changes from Wednesday's goalless draw with Manchester United, while Liverpool's only notable switch came in goal as Brad Jones replaced Simon Mignolet.

Daniel Sturridge had two early chances for Liverpool, forcing Fabianski into an early save after just a minute before latching onto Suarez's clipped through-ball, rounding the goalkeeper and firing into the side netting.

Yaya Sanogo, making a rare start in place of Olivier Giroud, was then involved in a series of Arsenal half-chances before the pressure told as Oxlade-Chamberlain fired home; the England international was on hand to side-foot home the loose ball after Sanogo's effort was blocked.

Liverpool recovered well and enjoyed a strong spell of possession, but struggled to force Fabianski into any further saves.

A more accurate cross from Podolski seven minutes before the break would have offered Sanogo a chance to double Arsenal's lead, while Suarez got a shot away on goal two minutes before the break, only for Fabianski to palm away with a strong right hand.

Podolski did, however, extend the home side's advantage two minutes after the break when he applied a sweeping finish to Oxlade-Chamberlain's cutback from the byline.

Suarez hit a vicious dipping effort just over the crossbar as he sought to bring Liverpool back into the game while Ozil's save was kept out by Jones soon after.

Gerrard then handed Liverpool a fighting chance from the spot after Suarez was brought down by Podolski in the area before Sturridge almost drew Liverpool level, only for Fabianski to deny him when he looked to have rounded him.

Liverpool felt they should have had another penalty when Suarez appeared to be clattered by Oxlade-Chamberlain in the area, but Webb was unmoved, before Agger then came close to hauling the sides level late on but headed wide with the goal gaping.

Having this week been described as a "specialist in failure" by Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, who saw his side dumped out of the competition by Manchester City on Saturday, Wenger will now be especially keen to go all the way in the FA Cup.

Tragedy: Man hangs self in Ibadan two days after his wife’s death

A 40 year old man named Anthony Bankole killed himself yesterday February 17th just two days after his wife died, according to a report by Premium Times.

Mr Bankole, whose wife was confirmed dead by doctors at the University Teaching Hospital, UCH, Ibadan, committed suicide at his uncompleted building site at Olodo area, Kumapayi, Ibadan, after leaving his rented apartment at Abayomi area of Iwo Road around 5.49 a.m.

A family source said the deceased told him he was going to use the ATM, when he was leaving in the morning, but later sent a text message to disclose his intention to commit suicide.

The source said Mr. Bankole gave no sign he wanted to take his life. "I even gave him money for his transport fare and told him not to stay out long. He lost his wife on Saturday and she is still in the mortuary; so I thought he needed money to pay or arrange for her burial,” he said.

Mrs. Bankole, who operated a business centre at the University College Hospital, UCH, died shortly after having a fight with her husband.

The source, who lives near the couple, narrated how her death occurred.
“We heard him (Mr. Bankole) shouting for help around 2 a.m. on Saturday. And with the help of another neighbour, she was rushed to the hospital; meanwhile she was already foaming from the mouth,” the source said.

Mr. Bankole’s corpse has been deposited at Adeoyo Hospital, Yemetu, Ibadan, mortuary.

Barack Obama Condemns Uganda’s Anti-Gay Law, says it is a step Backwards

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on Valentine’s Day – Friday 14th February 2014 revealed to members of his party that he would sign a bill imposing harsh sentences for homosexual acts, which may include life sentences.

The bill will aid in criminalizing homosexual relations. After the first conviction, offenders face a 14-year jail term, whereby more convictions may lead to life penalty in prison.

A 2009 version of the bill was withdrawn after public outcry of the death penalty.

Today Sunday 16th February 2014, President Barack Obama condemned the law.
“As we have conveyed to President Museveni, enacting this legislation will complicate our valued relationship with Uganda. The bill will be more than an affront and a danger to the gay community in Uganda.

It will be a step backward for all Ugandans and reflect poorly on Uganda’s commitment to protecting the human rights of its people.” he said in a statement.

Obama also spoke on countries where the bill has been legalized. “Tragically, we are seeing an increase in reports of violence and harassment targeting members of the LGBT community from Russia to Nigeria.”

Simon Cowell's first words to baby son

Simon's girlfriend Lauren Silverman gave birth on Valentine's Day in the same New York maternity ward where Beyoncé Knowles had her daughter Blue Ivy.

A close friend of the couple told the paper: “It was a very emotional day for them and such a special moment when the baby arrived.

“There were happy tears shed by everyone, including Simon. Eric is absolutely amazing and they’re all so delighted. He’s very handsome and Simon and Lauren are completely besotted. Simon was at Lauren’s side the entire time and he told her it was the best day of his life.”

Meanwhile, the Mirror has revealed that the baby's middle name Philip is a tribute to both Simon's late father, whose middle name was Philip, and his tycoon friend Sir Philip Green.

A source told the paper: “Simon wanted to pay proper tribute to the influence of his late father in his life. Eric Philip is clearly a very proper and respectful tribute to the man. But there’s no doubt he also wanted to pay some kind of tribute to another Philip who has been a major inspiration in his life, Sir Philip Green.

“It’s tremendous he’s been able to pay respect to two different male role models with his baby son’s birth.”

The paper also claimed that Simon celebrated the birth in his own unique way - by ordering a hamburger and a beer.

Simon Cowell reportedly held his baby son in his arms and told him "I've waited all my life for you" following the birth on Friday.
